About Yoga
In the West we think of yoga
as an exercise form but yoga is actually much more. In the Yoga Sutras (ancient
yoga text), yoga is described as the "cessation of all mental modifications".
Calming and quieting the mind is an important aspect of the practice. Yoga is a
body/mind discipline that works on the mental as well as the physical level.
Yoga is not a recent fad or trend, nor is it a religion. Yoga is a systematic and ancient approach to general health and well being. Yoga tones and relaxes the entire system while bringing the mind and body into perfect balance.
In the West, the most familiar and popular Yoga practice is "Hatha Yoga", the Yoga of the physical body. This is only one part of a larger system of Yoga aimed toward making the body and mind pure and focused.
About Hatha Yoga
Hatha Yoga is the most widely practiced form of yoga in the world. Hatha Yoga uses postures (Asana) and conscious breathing (Pranayama) in combination with mental focus to develop awareness, strength, flexibility, and relaxation. Through proper alignment and mindful actions of the body, Hatha Yoga brings balance, strength, and a sense of well-being to the practitioner. Because this practice is not a set series each Teacher brings their own creativity to their class!
Benefits of Yoga
Yoga postures, breathing practices, deep relaxation and meditation all have immense benefits both physically, mentally and spiritually when done regularly.
Results of Yoga:
Enhance immune system; develop strength and flexibility; reduce stress; improve circulation and digestion; boost energy level; improve concentration; promote sounder sleep; improve respiration
What's Different About Kripalu Yoga?
Even though you’ll learn many of the same postures as in other yoga classes, the Kripalu approach teaches you how to activate the life force of the body called Prana. When we awaken this intelligent energy, we experience a deep balancing and healing on many levels of our beings.
"Kripalu Yoga will take you into the field of pure
potentiality and infinite possibility." Deepak
Chopra
